Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

Danny Thomas Update

By: Steff Keightley
Date: 16/03/2001

AFTER the furore of a certain Wallace coming to Town, could we all have got it wrong? Could it be that a Thomas, not a Wallace, is on his way to join the Mariners? 19 year old Danny Thomas, currently on trial at Blundell Park, has been a professional footballer for just 18 months.

During this time, mainly under the reigns of former Leiceter City manager Martin O'Neil, Thomas has been used as a substitute on 3 occasions for the Foxes and also recovered from a serious knee injury.

Although only on trial, reports from people who have seen the diminutive Midlander play for Grimsby reserves rate Thomas as a good prospect. Those sentiments also ring true of followers of Leicester City. Bill Anderson, a sports journalist with the Leicester Mercury said of Thomas "Whilst under O'Neil, Thomas seemed to be a good prospect for the future, only a fringe player at the time, very fringe, but nevertheless one for the future. Till he sustained a serious knee injury"

Danny Thomas is still under contract with the East Midlands side until 30 June 2002, and will be registered as a Leicester City player until then. In the meantime Town fans will have to wait and see as to whether or not Thomas will get "the nod" from Lennie, and more importantly these days it would seem "the people upstairs".

Danny Thomas Profile:

Height: 5.07
Weight: 10.10
Date of birth: 01-05-1981
Place of birth: Leamington Spa
Position: Defender
Nationality: English
Appearances: 3 (as Substitute)
