Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

Return for Clive?

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 09/10/2000

In a suprise announcement today, Grimsby Manager Lennie Lawrence revealed that he is trying to secure former Grimsby hero "Super" Clive Mendonca on loan. Lawrence stated that he has been trying to see Clive in action after his long injury layoff but has so far not been successful in achieving it.

"I sent someone to watch him Wednesday but he did not play in the reserves game against Spurs" said the Town boss today.

Lawrence is hoping to tie up the deal before Saturday's home game against Huddersfield. adding that he had to have a striker before Saturday.

Charlton appear to be willing to let Mendonca go and Lawrence stated that he had had a number of conversations with Charlton over the last few weeks and they looked as if they were prepared to let him go if their other strikers are fit.

Lawrence's major concern is over Mendonca fitness. The former fan's hero at Blundell Park, now 32, had numerous injury problems during five years with The Mariners, and has just completed a treatment programme. Mendonca has not featured at all for Charlton this season, and only managed 19 appearances last season for the Addicks.

Is Clive Mendonca the answer to Town's scoring problems in 2000-2001? Let Mariners fans across the world know what you think on the Pontoonites Message Board
