Town Draw Pilgrims in FA Cup

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 17/10/2022

GRIMSBY will face League One leaders Plymouth at home in Round One of the FA Cup. Plymouth are theoretically the strongest team in the tournament, and a possible replay would be a very long journey should the game be drawn.

The two teams met in the FA Cup in 2017 when they were both in League Two. On that occasion, Town lost 1-0 at Home Park. The Mariners will hope to go one better in front of their own supporters on Bonfire Night. The tournament offers a substantial reward for progress, and the shared gate receipts make staying in the competition potentially very lucrative.

The defeat to Kidderminster last year was demoralising at the time, although subsequent events eclipsed the disappointment of that day.
