Can We Field A Team Yet?
By: Dan Humphrey
Date: 14/06/2002
With yesterday's announcement of the 2002-2003 Nationwide League fixtures, and the continuing ITV Digital Carlton/Granada saga severely restricting the club's ability to re-sign players, Mariners fans may be forgiven for wondering WHO is actually signed up for the Mariners for next season.
The Fishy understands that the following players are contracted to Grimsby Town FC for the 2002-3 season;
| 1 Danny Coyne | 2 John McDermott | 3 Tony Gallimore | 7 Alan Pouton | 10 Stuart Campbell | Â |
| 11 Paul Groves | 13 Steve Croudson | 14 Steve Livingstone | 15 Paul Raven | 16 Stacy Coldicott | Â |
| 20 Jonathan Rowan | 21 Phil Jevons | 23 Chris Thompson | 24 Iain Ward | 29 Chris Bolder. |
Others: The Mariners have signed young goalkeeper Bradley Hughes from Watford on a one year deal, and the likes of Darren Mansaram and Graham Hockless seem likely to be at the club next season.
This leaves little cover for injuries or loss of form, and would see the Mariners reliant on young players, loanees and even trialists. However, the future of the following seems to depend largely on the club's financial situation;
35 Michael Boulding, 25 Simon Ford, 12 Danny Butterfield, 6 Wayne Burnett, 26 Terry Cooke, 19 Bradley Allen.
So, depending what happens in the next few weeks, the Mariners could start the season with a side as follows;
Poor Town:
Coyne
McDermott Groves Raven Gallimore
Thompson Pouton Coldicott Campbell
Livingstone Jevons
Subs: Croudson Ward Bolder Rowan Mansaram
Rich Town:
Coyne
McDermott Ford Groves Gallimore
Cooke Pouton Coldicott Campbell
Boulding Allen
subs: Croudson Butterfield Raven Jevons Livingstone
Naturally, the Fishy team will keep you informed of all developments... stay tuned!
