Stadium - Good News Says John Fenty!

By: GTFC
Date: 05/11/2007

TOWN Chairman, John Fenty, is delighted to announce that the Chief Executive of NELC has informed Grimsby Town Football Club, that the Government will not be 'calling in' its planning application to relocate to Great Coates.

The application will now go before the local authority to be determined in the near future and is understood to be a 'formality'.

"This is great news but people must realise the club's ambitions to relocate to Great Coates has only moved a step closer, all be it a big one and that there are more hurdles to overcome before we have project reality."

"Obviously, our single biggest problem is feasibility i.e. the success of the retail enabling development."

"One-step at a time but for now this is excellent news and a credit to the steering group, The Gateway Team for its tenacity over a long period."

He continued: "Our developers are now in a position to tangibly go to the retail market with a planning permission, which will be the decisive test in the delivery program. The retail enabling development has always been the key to this project becoming a reality and that remains the case."

"We are relieved to have avoided a 'call in' by the Government as that would probably have been the end of the club's relocation ambitions because of the mounting cost to defend that type of process."

"This is the first bit of news for the club in a long time we really do hope it's the beginning of things to come because everyone is busting a gut to make a go of things at the club and it's not been easy lately which is an understatement"
