Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

Campbell Confidence Sky High

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 08/07/2001

STUART CAMPBELL is in a bullish mood both about his personal progress and the general upwards trend he perceives in the team. The ex-Leicester midfielder told Yorkshire Sport: "I loved it at Grimsby last year. I played 35 to 40 games in a season for the first time in my career and it was brilliant."

"...I think we are looking to carry on from last season..."

"They are a great bunch of lads at Grimsby and I've settled in really well with everyone here. Now I want to get a good pre-season under my belt and build from there." said Campbell, who joined the Mariners in May for £200,000, after having spent nearly the whole of the previous campaign on loan from Filbert Street.

Campbell is confident that The Mariners can improve on last season's final position of 18th in Division One this year, and steer clear of any relegation worries. "I think we are looking to carry on from last season. We are looking to push on this season and finish higher again. We got more points last year than we got the year before and we're looking to get more points again.

"...It was a bit nerve-wracking but we didn't do too badly in the end..."

"Although it went to the last game of the season for us to be safe, we should have sorted it out a few weeks before that. It was a bit nerve-wracking but we didn't do too badly in the end. We should have won a few more games at the end of the season." said Campbell.
