Grimsby v Halifax Team News

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 15/04/2014

GRIMSBY and Halifax meet in an evening where a large part of the four play-off picture could be decided. 3rd placed Grimsby take on 5th place Halifax and 4th place Gateshead take on 6th place Braintree. A win for the Mariners and defeat for Braintree could put Grimsby 8 points clear with 3 games to go.

On the other hand if Grimsby lose and Braintree win the Essex side would be last 2 points behind Town and the pair are due to meet on the final game of the season.

Aswad Thomas could return for Town after recovering from an ankle injury. Grimsby had no recognised left back available for Saturday's game with Chester and Paddy McLaughlin had to drop into the back four. Paul Hurst has to choose between Thomas and Jamal Fyfield, who has returned from suspension after the sending off at Dartford which cost him a one match ban. Town's other doubt is striker John-Lewis, who has a stomach injury, but Hurst has several other options up front.

Halifax have won five of the last six games, and won 4-0 at Barnet last time out. Halifax beat Grimsby 4-0 in Yorkshire earlier in the season, still the only game Town have lost by more than one goal all season. The Shaymen have a near fully fit squad available, with defender Simon Ainge available again after serving a two-match ban.

Grimsby will have to be at their very best to win the game.
