Brodie: Gone

Gateshead v Grimsby Team News

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 26/03/2013

GRIMSBY dust themselves down and return to league action in front of what will probably be the lowest crowd of the season, against Gateshead at Hartlepool. Gateshead are likely to attract about 300 people instead of the 30,000+ gate of Town's last game at Wembley.

Ironically though in the grand scheme of things tonight's game is more important than the FA Trophy final, albeit far less glamorous. It has been rearranged several times and now moved to Hartlepool as Gateashead's ground has been deemed unusable, but it is expected to go ahead as the weather is neither too cold nor too wet.

Striker Richard Brodie has left the club and returned to Crawley after terminating his loan. Brodie has been frustrated that he hasn't played more games, although ironically he's probably been involved as often as he would have in a normal pattern of games (i.e. once a week), but Town have been playing at least twice a week. It paves the way for Liam Hearn to return to the squad.

Derek Niven (groin) is rated as 50/50 and probably won't start the game. so Frankie Artus or Andi Thanoj will once again deputise. Artus (hamstring) and Disley (knee) are still feeling the effects of the 120 minutes at Wembley but are expected to be able to play some part.

Loanees Tom Naylor and Dougie Wilson are both eligible to play after being ruled out of Sunday's final.

Gateshead won't be making up the numbers as they need points to ensure their survival next season. Relegation shouldn't be a problem for the Tynesiders if they pick up points in their games in hands, but if they lose them all they could be sucked into the scrap at the bottom. They have to play every game away for the rest of the season, some of them hundreds of miles away from Gateshead.

Gateshead lost heavily at Dartford in their last game, but have won their last three "home" matches, including a 2-0 win at York over Kidderminster.
