Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

Grimsby v York Team News

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 13/03/2012

TOWN go into one of their biggest games of the season tonight against York forced to make at least one change. Former Boston midfielder Anthony Church (ankle) is ruled out of the promotion six pointer which is a rerun of the FA Trophy Quarter Final defeat that Town will be desperate to avenge,.

If Grimsby win the tie they will be level on points with the Minstermen just below the play-offs. If they lose Grimsby could be as many as 7 points behind the final fifth place play-off spot.

Andi Thanoj is a ready-made replacement for Church in a central midfielder role. The Town bosses have to decide between several players in the left midfield position. Peter Winn or Louis Soares as the most obvious candidates, but Frankie Artus can also play there and is back in contention after losing his place to injury.

Top scorer Liam Hearn limped off with an achilles injury at the weekend, and could conceivably be rested to give Hearn a chance of a full recovery, although with the importance of the match the Town bosses may decide to risk him. He is one of a number of players carrying slight injuries or knocks as the season draws to a climax. With a big squad to choose from the Grimsby managers may at some stake decide to shuffle their pack.

York who played in the FA Trophy at the weekend, and take a narrow 1-0 lead into the next match with Luton, have a number of players injured. Top scorer James Walker (hamstring), Middlesbrough on-loan defender Ben Gibson (hamstring), defender David McGurk (throat) and midfielder Lanre Oyebanjo (ankle) are all doubts..
