Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

The Road to Vale
The Road to Vale

Town Face Vale

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 30/10/2011

GRIMSBY face a trip to Port Vale in the first round of the FA Cup. The League Two side will form a tough test for the Mariners, as they currently sit just beneath the play-offs in the divion above Town. Grimsby have lost their last four visits to Vale Park by an aggregate score of 3-14.

The last time Town won two FA Cup ties in the same season was 1997-1998.

However Vale and Town met at Vale Park in 1936 in the FA Cup and Grimsby, then one of England's top sides and at the zenith of their history, won 4-0! Town would eventually beat Man City, Middlesbrough and lose 1-0 in the semis to Arsenal. Oh for a repeat of the same!

The pick of the other ties is probably Halifax Town v Charlton Athletic.

The full draw is as follows:

Hereford United v Yeovil Town
Bury v Crawley Town
Luton Town v Northampton Town
Cambridge United v Wrexham
Morecambe v Sheffield Wednesday
Swindon Town v Huddersfield Town
Redbridge v Oxford City
Bristol Rovers v Kidderminister Harriers or Corby Town
Oldham Athletic v Burton Albion
Preston North End v Southend United
Dagenham & Redbridge v Bath City
Hartlepool United v Stevenage
Droylsden or Blyth Spartans v Gateshead
Alfreton Town or Lincoln City v Carlisle United
Chesterfield v Torquay United
Crewe Alexandra v Colchester United
Tranmere Rovers v Cheltenham Town
Chelmsford City or Gloucester City v AFC Telford United
Darlington or Hinckley United v Tamworth
Exeter City v Walsall
Bradford City v Rochdale
Notts County v Accrington Stanley
Port Vale v Grimsby Town
Sheffield United v Oxford United
FC Halifax Town v Charlton Athletic
Sutton United or Leatherhead v Kettering Town
AFC Bournemouth v Gillingham
Milton Keynes Dons v Nantwich Town
AFC Totton v Bradford Park Avenue
Newport County v Shrewsbury Town
Leyton Orient v Bromley
East Thurrock United v Macclesfield Town
AFC Wimbledon v Scunthorpe United
Salisbury City v Arlesey Town
Brentford v Basingstoke Town
Maidenhead United v Aldershot Town
Mansfield Town or Fleetwood Town v Wycombe Wanderers
Barrow v Rotherham United
Southport v Barnet
Plymouth Argyle v Stourbridge

Ties played on the weekend of the 12th November.
