Church Comes to Mecca

PAUL Hurst and Rob Scott have raided their former club Boston once again for a new recruit, this time signing midfielder Anthony Church. The 23-year-old has put pen to paper on a one year contract, with an option of a second year.

Church is a rare example of a professional footballer with a degree. The Essex-born midfielder has just graduated in economics, business and finance at Loughborough University and was looking to begin a career in banking. However the prospect of joining the Mariners full time with a professional contract means Church has put his banking career on hold.

Prior to playing for Boston, where he spent two years, Church played for Ilkeston. The midfielder has become the sixth summer signing at Grimsby, but his cost will be set by tribunal, probably at the same time as the fee is decided for his former team-mate Shaun Pearson, who has also joined Grimsby from Boston this summer.
