Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

Who will it be?
Who will it be?

Interviews Next Week

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 24/02/2011

INTERVIEWS for the new manager of Grimsby Town will begin next week, with several candidates already expressing an interest. There is no obvious candidate for the post, which is likely (but not certain) to go to someone outside the existing management structure.

With Town not playing at the weekend it provides a free week in which candidates can be evaluated and interviewed.

Chairman John Fenty told the Grimsby Telegraph: "We are now going about our business of looking for the next manager of Grimsby Town and ensuring we are ready for the team's next game. The next announcement will be with regards to the appointment of the new manager. Applications have already began to come through and we will be looking at those next week."

Former player John McDermott, now assistant manager at Harrogate, has refused to comment on whether or not he will or has applied.

The Mariners have have eight managers permanent managers in the last decade plus several caretakers, of whom Dave Moore is the latest. The most successful of these, and the only one not to get sacked, was Russell Slade (now at Leyton Orient), but even he failed to get the Mariners promoted.

Anyone who succeeds will go down in history at a club where so many have tried and failed in recent times.
