Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

Town Upset Form Book

GRIMSBY progressed to the Area Quarter Finals of the Johnstone Paint Trophy with a 2-0 win at Hartlepool tonight. In a result which even the most ardent of Town fans could not have anticipated, two early goals from Town saw them over the line, although the performance was marred by another red card late on.

Mike Newell as promised made several changes, not least was a return to 4-4-2. Linwood's injury saw Bennett return to the back four. Boshell, Forbes and Fuller came into the problem area of midfield, and Nathan Jarman made his first appearance of the campaign up front alongside Adam Proudlock.

Town took the lead after just six minutes when Peter Sweeney curled a 35-yard free-kick around the wall and into the top corner.

Then ten minutes before half time Grimsby gave themselves a bit of breathing space. Adam Proudlock was picked out by Danny Boshell and dinked the ball over the advancing Flinders.

Hartlepool piled forward in the second half but the closest they can was when substitute Adam Boyd had a long distance shot tipped onto the crossbar by Colgan.

Danny was sent off with nine minutes to go for a second bookable offence, having earlier been booked for taking a free kick too quickly.

A full report will be appearing later.
