Scunny Soap Drama Part 2

By: Matty Newton
Date: 08/10/2008

AFTER an encouraging first half the scoreline didn't reflect the game. The second half burst to life from the word go with the Town faithful in tremendous voice.

The Mariners shot out of the blocks and HEGARTY smashed a low drive from the left hand side after Byrne failed to clear the ball, to the delight of the travelling black and white army.

Further chances went begging with Trotter hitting a shot over, although he didn't know much about it after Newey had a effort cleared.

Town continued to pile the pressure on the Iron, who were very much on the backfoot and we almost equalised when Clarke smashed a free-kick against the bar.

Stuart Watkiss made a double substitution on 75 minutes, replacing the tireless Till and workhorse Jarman with Andy Taylor and Tomi Ameobi. Shortly after Chris Llewellyn replaced Hunt.

Town again hit the bar with time ticking away, this time Heywood after a decent corner, but that was the last major chance for Town as Scunny just sneaked it.

Whatever was said at half time certainly did the trick as we certainly raised our game, and on another night we might have won but it certainly didn't feel like we had lost with Town fans in fine voice after the final whistle and it was very pleasing to see the players applaud us and recognise our support.

Next up Wycombe on Saturday and the start of Mr Newell's reign. Make sure you get yourself down to BP and lets get behind the boys!

Mike Newell's Black and White Army!!!

Up the Mariners!
