TOWN made an astonishing comeback to complete an unlikely victory over neighbours Boston, with local lad Peter Bore making the sort of debut he must have spent most of the last 18 years dreaming of

Grimsby lined up with more or less their strongest side, minus the injured Gary Cohen. Transfer-listed Michael Reddy started up front, and new signings Rankin and Beagrie played on the wings. 'Keeper Phil Barnes and midfielder Gary Harkins were two other Mariners making their debuts.
Town got off to a terrible start. Francis Green went close before defender Mark Greaves had a header which hit the inside of the post and ran across the whole of the goal line before being cleared. It was a huge let off for the Mariners, and Town's defence continued to be all at sea while Boston kept creating chances.
First another Greaves's chance was well saved by Barnes, but Boston finally broke the deadlock when Francis Green broke the offside trap and ran on to slot the ball past Town's keeper with the nearest Grimsby defender several yards behind.
Michael Reddy looked Town's most dangerous player in the first 45 minutes, although he didn't look 100% fit and seemed even more interested in scoring a solo goal than usual. But that said he was the best of a bad bunch.
Reddy was cynically hacked down from behind by Canoville, but the ref awarded just a yellow card even though the Irishman would have been clean though on goal but for the foul.
After the break Town looked dead and buried when a defensive mix-up led to the ball being given away in a dangerous area and it was crossed to Joachim to put the Pilgrims 2-0 up.
A blasted volley by Gary Jones was Town's best chance of the game to date, but the writing looked on the wall for Grimsby.
With 66 minutes gone Graham Rodger brought off Michael Reddy for local lad Peter Bore to make his debut. Town immediately broke down the right and Beagrie crossed the ball to Bore who had run into space and scored with his first touch within 10 seconds of making his debut for his home town club. Bore's face was worth the entrance fee alone.
The goal transformed the Mariners, who suddenly improved in every position. Rankin and Beagrie both looked lethal going forward in wide positions, Bolland and Harkins suddenly started to control the midfield and Town began to create chances galore.
The equaliser came through Isaiah Rankin. A simple ball into the box saw the ex-Brentford striker lash it into the net. Rankin almost went one better when a long-range shot came off the underside of the bar.
But the winner fell to Peter Bore, who sounds remarkably like a League Two club, to volley a Peter Beagrie corner into the Pontoon goal. Town even had time to show boat the ball in front of the Pontoon, but the final chapter of a pulsating game was a goal line clearance to deny Boston an equaliser deep into injury time.
If games at Blundell Park continue to be this entertaining fans will soon be locked out of Blundell Park!
