Where Are Town Going This Season?

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 19/07/2005

TOWN lost to Sheffield Wednesday in a friendly at Blundell Park last night. But as in all friendlies, the result is less important than the performance.

Mariners Net reported on the game saying; An entertaining first half with chances at both ends. Michael Reddy had the Mariners best chance racing clear but being headed off by keeper Lucas.

MacLean gave Wednesday the lead midway through the second half. Peacock nodded the ball down and the former Scunthorpe United loanee neatly lobbed Brown.

Wednesday further increased their lead after Barwick's header failed to reach Brown, leaving Proudlock an easy chance.

Nick Hegarty's late goal halved the visitors advantage.

But how did we perform?

BigChris said; A decent workout for the entire squad. Wednesday were clearly taking it seriously with a strong line-up and they made few changes as the game developed.

Brown had an inspired game. He looked uncertain at the start but he had one of those nights when everything stuck.

Crane, Ramsden and Jones did well enough against Maclean, Peacock and Proudlock (?) but we looked a little lost once Rambo departed after one minute of the 2nd half.

Fowler looked a good organiser/talker but faded as the game went on and Toner looked good until he too faded.

Jaysy34 said: I thought tonight the team showed a lot of promise. The back three of Crane, Ramsden and Jones is strong and both Newey and Macca look on good form.

Parky works hard but isn't suited to the role behind the front two and think Gritton looks really slow and out of shape.

Still played some good football and competed well against a strong well organised Wednesday team.

Did you go to the game?

If so, based on the friendlies so far, do Town look like a team that can hold its own in this division or even attain promotion?

Do we look better than last season?

I know it is hard to judge by friendly games but was there something you saw that gives us hope for the coming season?
