Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

Foreign Pair Join Boot Camp

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 01/07/2005

TWO unnamed foreign trialists are to join up with the Mariners' squad, who are spending a week in pre-season training at a Royal Army boot camp. The midfield duo are not France-based duo Makhtar N'Diaye and Jean-Paul Kamudimba, whose trial at Blundell Park seems to be over.

Neither player has yet signed a contract with the Mariners, but a week's intensive training at the boot camp will allow both the players and management to have a good look at one another.

The two new trialists take the place of Senegal international Makhtar N'Diaye (who had been on trial at Blundell Park, but was forced to curtail his trial with a persistant ankle problem) and another former Nice midfielder Jean-Paul Kamudimba (who likewise has flown home).

Former Olympic athlete Tony Whiteman (pictured) has been given the task of getting the players super fit before the start of the new season which is only five weeks away. Grimsby's first pre-season friendly is in less than two week's time against neighbours Scunthorpe at Blundell Park.

  • In a repeat of last season's tit-for-tat with Cheltenham of switching matches to Friday nights, the Mariners and the Robins have both moved their games a day forward to evening kick-offs.
