The Latest Injury Round-Up From Blundell Park

By: Richard Lord
Date: 09/11/2003

FORGOTTEN striker Jonny Rowan will need exploratory surgery on his knee, which may keep the 21-year old out until December. The news comes following reports that Rowan had twice broken down in training when nearing full fitness.

The injury occurred in Town's 2-1 defeat at home to Swindon back in September, when Rowan had opened his account for the season in his previous game - the 8-1 drubbing at Hartlepool.

The Tetney-born forward has already declared that this is very much a 'make-or-break' season, with his contract due to expire in the summer.

And Rowan will face stiff competition when he does return, with Darren Mansaram, David Soames and Phil Jevons to displace for any chance of first team action.

Meanwhile Gio Carchedi is expected to undergo reconstructive knee surgery this weekend, reports the Sports Telegraph. However, the full extent of his injury will only become clear after undergoing the surgery.

The 19-year old was also stretchered off during a reserve game against York City in August after colliding with the goalkeeper. It is reported "his scholarship is likely to be suspended until he regains fitness, meaning he will get the time back."

In other news, Simon Ford is expected to resume training next week following three weeks out with a hamstring strain. The defender pulled up with the problem after coming on as a sub in the game against Colchester.

Finally Stacy Coldicott has set his sights on a return to action by Christmas and New Year. The midfield terrier broke his leg seven months ago and has suffered a number of setbacks on his route back to full fitness.
