Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

We Can Do It !

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 24/02/2003

RICHARD Hughes said today that he believes Grimsby Town can survive the drop to the second division. "Grimsby didn't look like a side that are in the bottom three."

"I don't think anybody that goes to Grimsby will think that they look like a side in the bottom three when they play like that" he said of the Ipswich game.

Talking to the Grimsby Telegraph he said: "I was told about the deal (to come to Grimsby) last Thursday and I didn't think twice about it. I couldn't wait to get started and it's great to able to focus on first-team games again. I really enjoyed it out there."

"There are seven games in March and I want to play a part in helping Grimsby get out of trouble. When I heard about the chance to come here I was delighted. It was a good start. It's a good chance for me and I played against Grimsby earlier in the season and I know they like to play good, passing football."

"I know Stuart Campbell from the Scotland Under 21 squad and it wasn't a difficult decision."

Paul Groves said the arrival of John Oster and Richard Hughes helped lift Town from the off. He said: "I think it gave us a lift, but we were also mindful of the last two away performances where we have given teams a goal start, and that gives you a big mountain to climb, and at this level you can't do that. John has come back into familiar surroundings with a familiar group of players and it is like he has not been away."

He is a class act and obviously one we have monitored all the way and tried to get to come back."
