Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

Accolades For Daryl Clare!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 29/04/2002

DISCARDED by Grimsby Town and forced to take a chance in the Conference League, Daryl Clare has arrived back into the Football League with Boston United with a bang! Winning the Conference Golden Boot he was one of the major factors in Boston's success.

"It is the proudest day of my life by far." said Daryl.

"I've been in the Football League before but there are some of the older players who haven't been there and don't know what it's like. It means the world to them. I took a slight gamble in coming to Boston but it has all paid off. It has all been worthwhile. We've got the crazy gang spirit here."

Tony Cottee reserved praised Clare saying: "He has been superb and he will be scoring goals in the third division next season. He had a calf injury going into the game but he has been outstanding. He led the line fantastically well today and he has had a fantastic season."

"What you put into football you get back out and they fully deserve to win the trophy. These moments are few and far between and when you get them it's important to enjoy them. Boston were the best team, the league says that. They've got a chance now to show what they can do next season."

(Grimsby Town fans in particular will be pleased for Daryl. Some, were sorry to see him leave the Mariners and thought he had not been given a real chance to prove himself. The Conference may be a long way from the first division but there have been times when his scoring rate would have been welcomed at Blundell Park over the last season: Billo)
