Town Sign Wolves Striker

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 17/01/2002

PAUL GROVES announced today the signing of a striker from Wolves on loan. Groves and Graham Rodger have been looking for a big man up front in the Livvo mould and in Robert Taylor feel they have found the right man to do the job.

Robert Taylor, who many fans have predicted as the man over the last few days, was unveiled today by Mariners Net who announced the signing and reported that Taylor joined Wolves from Manchester City eighteen months ago for a fee of £1.6m, though injury and illness prevented him from establishing himself as a member of the Wolves first team.

At 6' 1" and 13 st 8 lbs. he is just the kind of big, strong target man that Town have been missing whilst Steve Livingstone has been injured or playing at the back. He goes straight into the squad against Crewe on Saturday.

Groves "I'm delighted that we have got our man. We need some height and presence up front. Robert is just the kind of man that has been missing since Steve Livingstone has been unavailable, and his inclusion gives us more options, especially in the air."

"He has the experience, and he's played for some big clubs at this level. We feel that he'll be able to give considerable help to our young strikers too. He has a great deal to offer us, and we're looking forward to getting to work with him."

"It's certainly given us a boost ahead of the Crewe Alexandra game."

Mariners Net said: Fans will be delighted that Groves has moved for such a player. It is something that many have been calling for now for several seasons - since big Livvo was moved to the centre of defence. Town's young strikers have battled manfully all season, but with no big, experienced player beside them it has been a hard slog to carve openings in tight Division One defences.

Paul Groves is sure that Robert Taylor is the man with the key!
