12/02/2000 Rant

How about Joe Kinnear?/h5>

Would anyone agree with my thoughts that Joe Kinnear (Wimbledon) working with Cockers would make the ideal manager for town?
At Wimbledon the youth have been an important part of the setup, attacking football! no argument on that one! Managing on a low budget and being successful. A nice guy who has respect for the fans (not seen at Grimsby these days) I remember when Lawrie Mac brought exciting football and success to Grimsby and he had the time to speak to anyone (even me) about town, remember the average home gates of 11,000 plus. Mr Buckley should remember who pays his wages and should also realise that as well as a sport it should be ENTERTAINMENT We know that Mr Buckley has got us this far and we all know he can't get us any further, we need a manager with Premiership experience plus that little bit extra known as charisma. Buckley's comment about "what do they know about football?" and his two fingered gesture to the Pontoon fans was a distasteful remark which should have resulted in him being disciplined by the club. I feel he knows he's going nowhere with Grimsby Town and the fans know it.

I feel an public apology by the manager to the fans for his recent deplorable behaviour towards them is needed, and I don't mean on the inside page of the Evening Telegraph but in the match day programme, or better still on this site.
